When You're Having Fun

Happy Monday! It feels great to be writing another post on Stylin' Iowan after a loooooooong break. I definitely didn't anticipate being so busy this summer, but I'm excited to get back in the swing of things and also start reading more style and lifestyle blogs! Although I don't have an outfit post today (stay tuned!), I do have a compilation of photos of what I've been up to since my last post in June. Has it really been that long? Yikes! Time flies when you're having FUN!

// 1. My cousin Katie and I with the cast from Jersey Boys! My family and I were lucky enough to go to the cast party after their outstanding performance. Pictured are Nick Cosgrove, who played the character Frankie Valli, and Brandon Andrus, who played the character Nick Massi. Forever 21 tank. Four Seasons maxi skirt. \\

// 2. The most amazing martini at one of my fav local restaurants, Graze. It was bubbling the whole time I sipped! \\

// 3. My friend Kaitlyn and I throwing what we know at a Kansas City Royals Game! My suggestion: get cheap tickets in the outfield and purchase their version of a margarita...RoyalRita! YUM. VS Pink Royals BBall T-Shirt.  \\

// 4. Getting some quality bonding time with my pup, Boji. She takes cuter photos than any-"buddy" I know! \\

// 5. I've spent quite a few weekends this summer up at Lake Okoboji. This was an early morning view from the boat. The weather and water were perfect. \\

Can't wait to show you a few outfit posts soon! I may or may not be tackling menswear this week...

Show Some Leg!

When is this weather going to warm up? I'm dying to get up to the lake this summer, but why go when it's not warm enough to swim? The other day it was actually pretty warm out, so my friend Kaitlyn and I headed outside to soak up some rays. I am obsessed with her gray and white striped skirt! Gray might be turning into the new black... it's crazy functional and easy to pair with most colors in any season, especially this red belt that Kaitlyn put with it..love it! Show some leg girl!

To see Kaitlyn's first post on Stylin' Iowan and to read about her personal style, check out her first post here. Have a great weekend everyone!

Birthday Skirt

So this outfit I'm really excited to show you guys because it cost me close to nothing! Almost everything I'm wearing is either from Forever 21 or TJMaxx (heck yeah!). I recently wore this outfit to dinner with my parents for my 21st birthday, and I was super comfy and felt like a million bucks. The wedges are (believe it or not) pretty comfortable for being 4 inches. I can barely wear flats without tripping and I didn't fall on my face all night!

And for those of you wanting to see me freak out when the clock struck midnight on my 21st....

Why do I get the feeling this will be one of the 1st and last times I will ever be happy to show my ID? Cheers to being legal!

Working Girl

Summer is here (finally)! Now that school is out for the summer, I can devote more time to Stylin' Iowan, as well as my internship. I love dressing up for work, especially in the warmer months. It's fun to wear cute work appropriate dresses and fun pencil skirts, pieces that I don't normally wear from class to work. Today I'm featuring one of my good friends from work, Britt! We actually took these photos on her last day of work, as she recently graduated from Iowa this spring. She will truly be missed at JPEC!

Below is a message from Britt about this outfit and her personal style:

"My name is Brittany and I just graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Health and Human Physiology: Health Promotion and a Certificate of Entrepreneurial Management. While in college, I was extremely busy as I was a full-time student, I was the Marketing & Events Intern at the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, I created a student organization and coordinated an annual 5K. Even though I am quite busy, looking my best has always been important to me. When shopping, I search for “classic” pieces to build my working girl wardrobe. I usually spice up my outfits with a great necklace, shoes or a jacket. As I am always on the go, I like to choose outfits that can go from work to a night on the town. Overall, I think my style is simple and chic with a little bit of spice every now and then."

This dress is great for work! I like that the straps are thicker, making it more appropriate so that the shoulders aren't completely bare. Depending on how formal your work environment is, you can throw any colored cardy on with pumps, or even tights for the fall and winter months. Versatile and affordable, all things girls love!
